Description
How should this medication be used?
Lorazepam is available in tablets, extended-release capsules (Loreev) and concentrate (liquid) to be taken by mouth with or without food. Tablets and concentrate (liquid) are generally taken with or without food two or three times a day. If lorazepam (tablets or concentrate) is used to treat insomnia, it is usually taken at bedtime. Extended-release capsules (Loreev) are usually taken with or without food once a day in the morning. Carefully follow the directions on the prescription label and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part not included. Take lorazepam exactly as directed.
Extended-release capsules should be swallowed whole; they should not be chewed or crushed. If you are unable to swallow the extended-release capsule, you can open the capsule and sprinkle the entire contents over a spoonful of applesauce. You can prepare the mixture in advance and store it for up to 2 hours. When you are ready to take the medicine, swallow the whole mixture without chewing it. Then drink water to rinse the mixture and make sure you have swallowed it all. Do not store the drug mixture for future use.
Lorazepam concentrate (liquid) comes with a specially marked dropper to measure the dose. Ask the pharmacist to show you how to use the dropper. Dilute the concentrate in water, juice, or carbonated drinks just before taking it. It can also be mixed with applesauce or pudding just before taking the dose. Gently stir the mixture
